Praxis for Home

Hand-made adobe mud bricks (re-purposed soil from a home in Berkeley, fragments of found paper, and water). Variable dimensions.

Praxis for Home focuses on constructive processes that engage with themes of syncretism and materiality as means of exploring the idea of home. By using soil displaced from a home in Berkeley, California, Rodríguez Serrano repurposes it and imbues it with new meaning through the process of mud-brick making. Process becomes a refuge. Through compression and relocation, solid alternatives are consolidated, and the once-displaced soil becomes functional, as bricks, the basis of a foundation, the beginning of a home.
